With sector ETFs, you invest in a specific part of the economy, for example in the consumer staples sector. How do I invest in the consumer staples sector?
An industry or sector index consists of all the companies of a certain sector starting from a parent index. For example, the MSCI World Consumer Staples index tracks all companies from the consumer staples sector that are included in the MSCI World. A global consumer staples ETF thus gives you the opportunity to invest in the largest companies from the consumer staples sector worldwide.Sector ETFs of this type should not be mixed up with thematic ETFs. Which companies are included in consumer staples ETFs?
Companies in the consumer staples sector sell or produce essential goods from the business segments of food, beverages, tobacco products, consumer goods and hygiene products. The sector also includes companies in the food and drugstore retail business as well as supermarkets and hypermarkets.
